By the end of this lesson your student should be able to build a line plot from a list of data, choose a number line that fits it, and point out the mode, a cluster and an outlier.

Putting one X over a value that appears three times. Every data value gets its own X, so repeats stack up.
Skipping the sort, then losing track of which values have been drawn.
Have the student cross each number off the list as he draws its X. A finished plot should have exactly as many Xs as the list had numbers, and counting them is the best check there is.
