Practising the week's actual spelling words instead of a generic list.
The 36-week phonics list already lives in the site's own data, so this game draws from the words a student is genuinely being tested on that week rather than words somebody else chose. Every word on that list is decodable by rule — no sight words — so climbing the ladder rewards knowing the pattern, not remembering a shape.
Cheapest of the games to build, because the word list already exists.
